Jets Diamond Creek “Learn to Fly” Invitational L4-10

A busy weekend for Mountain Districts, with competitors in 5 different levels!

Grace got the club off to a great start, winning gold on Beam in the level 7 competition.  Jess also put in a solid performance in level 9.

Jets2013Lisa Horn followed up with a gold on Bars in level 4, and the level 4 team of Lisa, Miranda, Caity and Jane won silver overall. Well done, girls!

In the same section, the team of Amy, Yanna and Keeley performed well for their debut.  Who will forget Keeley’s face when she finally got over on her vault for the first time ever?  One of the biggest cheers from the crowd for the whole session, which was a great example of sportsmanship!

Stephanie and Jackie competed in the same session in level 8, and gave us all a great example of how to enjoy competing, even if things don’t go quite how you plan.  I’m sure we all hope Jackie’s ankle is back to full strength soon.

Our level 5 team of Shaniah, Rachael and Brittany did well, with Shaniah managing 6th on floor.  Great effort!

Acromat Waverley Classic 2013

The Acromat Waverley Classic is for Levels 4-10, and is a big event – it covers 4 days!

Saturday started with solid performances from Stephanie in level 8 and Jessica in level 9 – well done both of you.  Grace also put in a strong performance on Sunday in level 7.

Tuesday saw our level 4 team competing in a strong field.  Lisa, Caity and Miranda all did well, with some personal best scores.  Miranda managed equal 4th on beam, and improved her score by over 1.00 from the last competition – all that hard work paid off!

Eclipse Gymnastics Invitational 2013 – Levels 4-10

A couple of very early starts for some of our teams, but they managed to perform well anyway!  We had competitors in levels 4,5 8 and 9.  A great effort from all of them, with the gymnasts turning in some excellent performances.

MDG Level 4 Team

The level 4 team continued their winning ways, with the team placing 2nd overall.  Well done, girls!  There were also some individual medals, with Lisa equal 1st on vault and 3rd on floor, and Caity 3rd on beam.

Eastern Gymnastics Invitational 2013 – Levels 4-10

A busy weekend for Mountain Districts, with girls in levels 4, 5 and 8.  All the girls worked really hard and turned in some great performances.

The level 4 team, consisting of Lisa, Shaniah, Miranda, Jane, Caity and Tahlia excelled  themselves on the day, coming 1st overall.

Lisa, after coming 3rd on bars, 2nd on vault and 3rd on beam, won the all-around gold – well done Lisa! Miranda scored 1st on bars, and Shaniah was 2nd on floor.

One of the best things about our level 4 team was that they didn’t just cheer on their own teammates – they were also very supportive of the other girls in the same group from Endeavour Hills.

Don’t Just Stand There, Use Those Muscles!

Good posture combined with body tension is one of the keys to success in gymnastics.

Try using your body body tension when you stand. Fight against sagging through your lower back so that your tummy pokes out (a favourite stance for little girls!), try instead to stand tall.

Use your muscles to straighten your back and lift your head and see if you can make yourself just a little taller. The front of your hips should feel flat. When you stand up nice and tall, don’t lift your shoulders – they should be relaxed.

A little effort will go a long way!
